Rio Grande Bosque Parcel Planning

We Want to Hear from You! Please Take the Survey Below!

BACKSTORY: The New Mexico State Land Office is considering how the ecological and management needs of the 212-acres near the Valle del Oro National Wildlife Refuge could potentially be better managed by U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service but wants to know your opinion before deciding whether to proceed.

The State Land Office would like to know what kinds of activities should or should not be allowed on state lands, including waterfowl hunting, which was once a permitted activity on the parcel. Other activities being considered include hiking and bird watching. The local community’s support is vital in helping the State Land Office make a final decision on the management of this land.

The New Mexico State Land Office is hosting three public meetings this spring regarding this parcel. More details below this survey.

Albuquerque South Valley Public Meetings

The New Mexico State Land Office is hosting three (3) public meetings to consider a proposal to transfer a 212-acre parcel of state land in the Bosque to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. The parcel of land is adjacent to the Valle de Oro National Wildlife Refuge, which the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service manages.

No actions have been taken on the proposal to this date. Public participation at these meetings is highly encouraged and will help New Mexico Commissioner of Public Lands Stephanie Garcia Richard determine whether or not to approve this transfer of state land. Input from residents of the neighborhoods in the direct vicinity of the Valle de Oro National Wildlife Refuge is particularly helpful. Commissioner of Garcia Richard is committed to ensuring the voices of these community members shape the final decision on how best to manage the parcel of land.

Suggestions about other potential uses of the parcel are also welcome and will be considered by the Commissioner.

Childcare will be provided at each meeting.
