Event Highlights
Through February -- Commissioner's Gallery Features "Rain" Exhibit by Diana Stetson
The Commissioner’s Gallery opens the exhibit “Rain” from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Feb.3, featuring paintings and prints by local artist Diana Stetson that were created on behalf of the environment.
"We are very appreciative of the opportunity to highlight Diana Stetson's beautiful artwork,” said Commissioner of Public Lands Ray Powell, M.S., D.V.M. “Her passion for and love of the natural beauty that surrounds us is an inspiration for all that care for this planet."
In 2006, Stetson created a body of work in response to the climate change issue. Writing short poems about her experiences in nature, she picked one poem each month to translate to a block print. Twelve prints were completed by 2007 and exhibited across the country. Stetson also painted three large oils representing her current environmental initiative – creating compelling visual stories about the natural world."
Stetson’s goal is to develop awareness, interest and action and to overcome public apathy and confusion concerning environmental issues. Ten percent of the sales from this show will be donated to Western Watersheds, a non-profit conservation group that protects and restore watersheds and wildlife through education,
public policy initiatives, and litigation. The show may be viewed from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday
during February.
