Beneficiaries of the State Land Trust

In Fiscal Year 2011, trust lands and permanent funds produced more than $499 million in income for the trust. The trust is administered by the Commissioner of Public Lands.

 

New Mexico’s Enabling Act of 1910 and the Ferguson Act of 1898 designated the beneficiaries for whom the grants of land would be held in trust and administered by the Commissioner of Public Lands. Each beneficiary was identified, an amount of land was dedicated, and the Land Board was formed to identify the lands and assign the tracts to specific beneficiary institutions.
